I agree that they're often not realistic. But they are good entertainment!

TV and movies, in some cases, are a great way to pick up on subtle, and not so subtle, actions of characters.

Karen Cioffi Writing and MarketingKaren Cioffihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15492421057039326702noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2925401174378785919.post-18263514023027860802012-03-05T23:45:05.392-06:002012-03-05T23:45:05.392-06:00Vivian, I think we pick up a lot from the crime sh...Vivian, I think we pick up a lot from the crime shows and I've that resonate in those who write romantic suspense. One of my writing friends, Melanie Atkins attended a week long Writer's Retreat for Police procedures and it really gave a good idea of what's realistic.

As for me, I'm a drama queen. I definitely do learn much from them to help my writing. I've learned what not to do, thereby improving my own writing.Vivian Zabelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06129178812565073972noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2925401174378785919.post-20715273079659227212012-03-02T17:36:41.307-06:002012-03-02T17:36:41.307-06:00I agree about it being helpful to learning what NO...I agree about it being helpful to learning what NOT to use in your stories. Having been married to a peace officer who did over 20 years service, I know for a fact that things are not like they are on TV. There's ALWAYS another side to the story, and the media is extremely guilty of only showing one side. It doesn't matter what media it is. There's always another side. But you're right about it being a good place to learn from and get ideas.Rena Joneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02328844122193024220noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2925401174378785919.post-91921644868975021042012-03-02T17:24:50.078-06:002012-03-02T17:24:50.078-06:00Really? Of course the audiences are often accepting of anything, whether it's good or not. That still doesn't excuse bad writing, just because some writers can get away with poor writing for a while.Vivian Zabelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06129178812565073972noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2925401174378785919.post-55014633709066530282012-03-02T09:45:24.278-06:002012-03-02T09:45:24.278-06:00I don't disagree with your assessments, but he...I don't disagree with your assessments, but here's the rub: the writers of those shows have jobs ... their approach evidently works.Christopher Hudsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03667548312923348614noreply@blogger.com
